Originally from
Pleasant Valley, PA, Jon began his coaching career back in 1984 for
EMAC under Mike Seip. Upon completion of his competitive
career, he became an undergraduate assistant coach at the
University of Alabama under 1984 Head Olympic Coach Don
Gambril. During his years coaching at Alabama, he spent the
summer of 1988 working for Mission Bay Makos in Boca Raton FL under
Mark Schubert. After graduating from Alabama in 1989, Jon was
appointed Head Coach of Coronado Navy Swim Association in San
Diego, CA and held that position until 1996. In 1992, Jon was
voted San Diego-Imperial Coach of the Year. In November of
1996, Jon became the first Head Coach of Big Cat Aquatics (then
Nittany Lion Aquatic Club) in State College, PA and remained with
BCAT until 2006. In 2005, Jon was selected as Age Group Coach
of the Year for Middle Atlantic Swimming. In 2006 Jon became
an Assistant Coach for Penn State University for 2 seasons.
In April of 2009, Jon returned to EMAC and is currently the Head
Coach. Currently, Jon is also on the Board of Directors for
Middle Atlantic Swimming.
Competitively, Jon
began swimming for the Bethlehem YMCA and Saucon Valley Country
Club. While swimming for Freedom High School, Jon was the
PIAA State Record Holder in the 100 Free and a member of the PIAA
championship 400 Free Relay. In twelth grade, Jon moved to
Mission Viejo, CA and while there swam for the Mission Viejo
Nadadores under Mark Schubert. Jon was the 1981 CIF Champion
in the 100 Free and a member of the National High School record
breaking 400 Free Relay. Jon went on to swim at Arizona State
University before transferring to the University of
Alabama.
Matt (Coach G) has been coaching in the Lehigh
Valley for 5 years with a number of teams. He got his start
as a volunteer coach with Palmer Swim Team and quickly moved on to
become the assistant coach of Southern Lehigh Varsity Swimming and
head coach of Harrison Morton Middle School in Allentown, Nazareth
YMCA, and Soleco Summer Swim Team. He's coached a number of
individual and team district champions, district record holders,
State medalists, and All Americans.
Matt has been swimming since the age of 5 and
swam with YMCA, USA, Summer League, and High School. His
events were the 200 and 500 freestyle. He graduated from
Temple University with a BA in History and Religion in 2003.
He went back to school to get his teaching certification from Point
Park University and is currently teaching 7th Grade U.S. History at
Moravian Academy.
This is Mike's first year with Emmaus Aquatic Club. Originally
from Berks county, Mike attended Albright College and served as a 4
year varsity swim team member. Mike met and and is
now married to his wife, Jackie, who was also a member of the
swim team. After graduating, he transitioned his swimming
career to coaching and served as an assistant coach at Albright
Aquatic Club for 2 years. Mike enjoys being around the pool,
teaching, training, and helping the kids develop a passion for
swimming. He likes to have fun and has a deep competitive
nature (just ask his wife). Mike looks forward to a great
year with the team.
This year marks Katie's 2nd year
at EMAC. She was a contributing member of the Southern Lehigh
Varsity swim team for 2 years and has been giving beginner to
advanced swim lessons for 4 years. She now attends Penn State
Lehigh Valley where she will earn her degree in Elementary
Education.
